RTW – the end of the story

This is the last posting – you will be glad to know !  (No photos)

We landed at Heathrow this morning at 04.50.  We were home at 08.15. Around the world in 53 days !

Congratulations to anyone with the stamina to follow all the postings and 74 photographs.  Hopefully, the blog has told a story without being tedious. Thanks to everyone who followed it.

We have had a wonderful trip very much enhanced by all the family and friends we visited along the way, thanks to all of them for their hospitality.

Over and out — until the next time 😊 ! !

RTW – Singapore

Arrived here from Sydney on Friday evening. We have had 2 wonderful days so far and today is our last. Tonight we will be heading for London, Heathrow – due to arrive at 05.10 tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

Singapore has been lovely: on Saturday we spent 3 hours at the HSBC  Women’s PGA tournament and saw some of the big names playing, including Michelle Wie. We went round Fort Silosa on Sentosa Island where we are staying which told the story of the Japanese occupation in WW2. In the evening we saw the light and sound show “Wings of Fire” which was very dramatic.

Yesterday we took the cable car to the mainland and then on to the Gardens by the Bay, most impressive, makes the Eden Project look quite small. Then we went to the top of the Marina Sands hotel (floor 56); they call it the ironing board, the views are spectacular. From there we took a river boat up the Singapore river to Clarke Quay and from there took the public transport system (MRT) to Jurong where we found a brilliant Indian restaurant where you view the menu and place your orders on an iPad ! As it was 6.00 and we hadn’t had any lunch we had lunch/dinner there; we both agreed that it was the tastiest meal we had in the 8 week trip. From Jurong we took the MRT back to the cable car and then on the cc back to the hotel – exhausted. Not sure what we are going to do today — possibly the Botanical Gardens and Jurong Bird Park.

RTW – Port Stephens NSW

Yesterday Julian drove us the 200km north from Sydney to his cottage by the sea.  There are wonderful birds in the garden – lorikeets, cookaburras, cockatoos and more. Across the road in the blue gums there are koala bears but we haven’t seen any yet.

RTW – arrival in Sydney

Unfortunately we came into Sydney Harbour in the dark and so, missed the spectacular arrival views. We docked at 05.45 on Circular Quay in between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the famous Opera House.
